Research on PSR and recovery assists in developing practices which are evidence based, so that services providing PSR are ethically sound by offering demonstrably effective, efficient, and safe services.
In order to support research on PSR and recovery, PSR Ontario has established a research committee of its board of directors. This Committee, whose terms of reference and membership are approved by the board of directors of PSR Ontario, works in collaboration with the research committee of PSR/RPS Canada.
Some of the research-related initiatives of PSR Ontario include promoting research in Ontario and in Canada, e.g., by establishing a research bursary for PSR as a joint venture with PSR/RPS Canada, and disseminating innovative knowledge of PSR in Ontario and Canada, e.g., by publishing on the relation between PSR and recovery in the newsletter of PSR/RPS Canada.
PSR/RPS Canada and its Ontario Chapter are pleased to announce a research bursary to encourage and support new or junior investigators who wish to conduct Canadian research in psychosocial/psychiatric rehabilitation (PSR).
The research bursary for seed funding, in the amount of up to $3,000 from PSR/RPS Canada and up to $3,000 from its Ontario Chapter, is awarded annually.
Applications for the bursary will be reviewed by a panel of established researchers in psychosocial rehabilitation. Winning applications will be announced by July 1, 2010.
The funding for winning applications will be released after receipt of Research Ethics Board approval (or waiver) of the proposed study and of any other institutional approvals required in the applicant's jurisdiction.
Applications are encouraged from new or junior investigators residing in Canada. Applications should include a curriculum vitae, institutionally signed letters of support when required by the applicants’ institutions, and up to 5 double spaced de-identified WORD 2003 A4 size pages describing the proposed research and structured to include:
1. Relevant background and importance.
2. Research questions/hypotheses.
3. Methodology (including design, sampling approach(es), sample
description and size, with sample size calculation when needed), measures/tools and data collection methods, and analysis procedures as well as any other methodological issues).
4. References.
5. Detailed budget.
Please submit applications by email to Dr. Abraham (Rami) Rudnick, Chair, Research Committee, PSR/RPS Canada, abraham.rudnick@sjhc.london.on.ca by April 1, 2010.
